とある面接の試験官から、この様な質問を聞かれました。

”日本は素晴らしい科学者を輩出する環境が整っていると思いますか？”

我が家の食卓や移動中の会話は、少し変わっていると思います。

もちろん、私の家庭以外のことはわかりませんが、おそらく車で遠出している際に日本の道について議論する家庭も、ごく一部なのでは？と思ったりするわけです。

食卓を囲むときは、学校の話題よりも、新聞の朝一のニュースよりも、日本と世界の教育の違いがトピックになったりする。

先ほど試験官に聞かれた質問に、私が意見を持って答えることができたのは、移動中の家族内の会話のおかげでした。

家庭は、学校よりも前に子供が社会を学ぶ場所だと思います。

社会を斜めから切り取ったトピックを持ち出す父。

私とは正反対の性格で、意見も対立することが多い良き反駁者の弟。

この二人とは違った、人の優しさ、自然といった理念に基づき、事の核心を突く母。

その家庭内で、自分の意見を物怖じせず言える環境があることは、私が自分の意見を言える理由の一つなのかな、と思いました。

"Do you think Japan has the right environment to produce great scientists?"

I was asked this question by an examiner at one of my interviews.

I feel like the conversation within my family, during dinner table, or while traveling is a little bit different from other families. Of course, I don't know about other families than mine, but perhaps only a small percentage of families discuss Japanese morality when they are driving away from home? 

When we sit around the dinner table, the topic is more about the differences in education between Japan and the rest of the world. It is unlikely to talk about the breaking news of this morning. 

I am thankful for this situation, because "this " is the reason why  I was able to answer the question asked earlier by the examiner with an opinion.

I believe that the home is where children learn about society before school. It is the closest opportunity for children to know about the world, the community, and the society itself 

My father brings up topics that are off from normal newspapers. 

My brother, who is the opposite of me and a good rebuttal person, ALWAYS conflicts with me. 

My mother, who is different from both of them, gets to the heart of the matter based on principles such as human kindness and nature.

In this family, I am able to express my opinions without fear, which is one of the reasons why I am able to express my opinions.
